Michelle vanBeusekom is the Executive Director of English Language Production at theNational Film Board, Canada’s public producer of documentary, animation and interactive/immersiveprojects. She leads the creative direction, operations, and finances for fiveproduction studios which work with talented emerging, mid-career andestablished directors from across the country. English Program studios haveabout 100 projects underway at any given time and release an average of 30projects per year. Recent releases include the featuredocumentaries The Apology, Unarmed Verses and A Better Man;the short animations Threads, The Mountain of SGaana and Hedgehog'sHome; and the VR theatre-doc hybrid Hold Me Close. Prior to joining the NFB in 2006, Michelle worked as a production executive atCBC and the Women’s Television Network. She co-programmed the Planet inFocus Environmental Film Festival from 1999-2002. She holds a Masters degree inSocial and Political Thought and speaks English, French, Spanish andPortuguese.
