GZDOC 2019 ‘China Stories’ International Pitching Session: TOP 10 Pitches and Awards Winners

After the 3-day intense pitching sessions, 50 GZDOC decision makers have selected winners for TOP 10 Pitches, Special Pitch Award by CNEX/CCDF and Wanda Elite+ Project Award. The project ‘Mom of the Ring’ won the Best Pitch and the Wanda Elite + Project Award. It will receive cash rewards of 100,000 RMB in total (50,000 RMB from each award).

In 2004, GZDOC set up China’s first pitching session in the country, which changed into ‘China Stories’ International Pitching Session in 2016. This year, GZDOC received a total of 216 entries from 24 countries/regions, among which 25 were selected as the finalists and were presented to 50 Decision Makers from home and abroad during the festival. The finalists cover a wide range of topics, including food, art & history, sport and social issues.

Eternal Gaze （一直看着你来的路口）

What is the story about?

Once he had stationed at Pamirs for two decades, the famous visual anthropologist Xiangchen Liu has been trying to tell the legend of Pamirs ‘ eastern edge and Tajiks humanistic conception of worship of the sun to the world. His fellow geologist, archaeologists, and he trudged together through kinds of splendid landforms, like GaiJiaKe Daban, Zarepuian Valley, Yarkant RIver, YinSuGaiTi Glacier and so on. They had ever stopped at ancient posthouse on the Silk Road, seeing the ancient rock paintings; They had ever gone to Tajiks’ houses, overlooking k2. These experiences were turned to precious fragments which are beyond time and space.

During the whole process of passing through the magnificent Pamirs,Xijiang, director Xiangchen Liu met Tajik friends again after being apart so many years.

What is the story about?

Thirty-year-old Sisi is a WBC Asia Title champion and the mother of a two-and-a-half-year-old boy. This year, 2019, will be her most challenging yet. Not only does she have the opportunity to fight in a potentially career-changing International Boxing Federation match, she is also resuming full-time care of her son, who has been living with his grandparents.

Sisi was born and raised in a conservative family who believe––as many do in China––that motherhood is a woman’s most important job. After her son was born, Sisi suffered severe postnatal depression. Boxing became her way out, a way to show the world she existed.

Sisi worked hard to get where she is. But how will she face these new challenges? How to maintain a gruelling training schedule and raise a young son? And what about having a second child?

Can Sisi win inside and outside of the ring?
